HOW IT STARTED

The Current Event started with a simple idea: bring people together, make it meaningful, and give back.

After years in the events industry, Halimah Saalakhan noticed a significant nonprofit need in 2017. Fundraisers needed to be more accessible to the community. Much of the communities barrier to support nonprofits was monetary. Halimah then created an easy way to support nonprofits while going out to frequently visited locations.

Afterwards, Halimah brought together a board with decades of experience in education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship combined. Once fully established in as a 501(c)(3), The Current Event set out on its mission to bridge the gap between education access to local communities, nonprofits by curating partnerships that help us meet people where they are and where they frequent. It has since taken off and been able to create an impact GLOBALLY by supporting international events.

Our largest impact footprint to date was  leading the Community Impact initiative at the Amazon’s re:Invent 2024, where attendees created over 5000 kits and contributed to $75,000 to nonprofit organizations.
